Broken Bones and Brothers
October 11th, 2009
Well the GRE and the Half Marathon are DONE. I’m at a loss for what to do with all of my free time (aside from catch up on Greek!) I don’t think you understand my relief!
This is me before the race… my nerves are clearly evident:

And this is me after the race:

So, that’s why I don’t know what to do with myself! I CANT RUN ANYMORE! Yup, didn’t even finish the race. Around 5 1/2 miles I started having a terrible pain on the top of my foot and had to stop at 7 1/2 miles when I came to the next water station. A lady there was kind enough to take me to town since she was heading to the finish line, about 4 blocks from my parents’ home. I was proud not because I made it an extra two miles, but because I didn’t cry when I called Dave to tell him I couldn’t finish. Go me!
Anyhow, after some internet research and conferencing with my runner/nurse cousin, I’m pretty sure it’s a stress fracture. First thing tomorrow morning I’m making an appointment at a local foot clinic. Until then I will continue to hobble around like an idiot.
After the, uh, “race”, I went to the pumpkin fest to hear my little brother perform! My older brother helped out on drums. They really did get all the talent.

Well, we walked to the fest, but Dave has really risen to the occassion of my “broken foot”, and gave me piggy back rides when I needed them. I think guys like a damsel in distress everynow in then.
However, we when got back to Pittsburgh, I made myself a spinach feta omlet, and Dave hid it when I wasn’t looking. He was kind enough to tell me where it was so I didn’t have to put any extra stress on foot then was necessary…because apparently it was necessary to hide my dinner?? I found it in the bottom of my bookshelf.

Hopefully I can get to the Drs’s soon! Watch! He’ll say it’s all in my head after I’ve made such a big deal about it. Haha! Oh well, I will keep you all posted. I’m trying to have a good outlook on this. I know my body needs rest, and God is trying to teach me something through all this. I just need to take this time to listen. And I think I might join a gym with a pool and start swimming. Hmmm….
