Bittersweet

Today was bittersweet.

I took the day off!! And it began with a yummy breakfast cookie, topped with Crofter’s Superfruit Spread. And of course a cup of coffee from Prestogeorge. Today’s brew was Chocolate Almond. Mmm Mmm GOOD.

I love my San Francisco mug! It makes me think, not of the beautiful city, but of Stacey. I miss her so much (already).

I also love these spreads, but I have no emotional attachment to them. I’d sacrifice them to save my mug.

The whole reason I took the day off was because Stacey was flying back to CA today. And since I live right by the airport, I met her and her mom at a little cafe, First Watch, that just opened. We didn’t get to spend as much time together as we would have liked while she was home, but I am so thankful for what little time we did get.

After a quick trip to Mecca, and a little nap, I went for a run today, all in the name of Marathon Training. Wow, the thought of running 26.2 miles after an injury makes me scared enough to pee my running tights.

Here are the numbers…not because they are good, but because I have a Garmin and I can.

Distance: 3.45
Time: 35.21
Avg. Pace: 10:15/mile
Mile 1: 10:36
Mile 2: 10: 20
Mile 3: 10:11
.45: 4:13

Hills are everywhere around here! I can’t escape them! But it’s good training because the Pittsburgh Marathon will also be hilly (obviously).

Yet the bitter part of my run is that I think I’m getting sick with whatever my husband has been battling, and instead of jump-starting my immune system, I think I made it worse! My throat is raw and my nose is runny and my chest is on the verge of a coughing fit! NOT. GOOD.

It’s funny how an injury can really mess with your head. While I was out of running commission, I would have done anything to go for a run. But now that I’m running again, I kind of miss the relaxation. However, I’m glad that I have something to strive for, but I need to get my mind back in the game. I was thinking that I had to run 2-3 miles today, but when I looked at my training schedule today, I saw that it was actually 3-4 miles. I wanted to cry. Sad, huh? I know I’ll get back in the groove soon enough! I guess it’s just bittersweet.

On the sweeter end of things, I ordere two boxes of Clif Bars. These things are like cookies, they are AH-MAZING. My favorite part is that they are the perfect pre-run snack. I hate getting hungry on runs, but I cannot run after a meal. A half of one of these babies fills me up without weighing me down!

Dave lived off of these on his 200-mile bike ride in April. He was happy when I found them for a good deal. He picked a flavor and I picked a flavor (can you guess which one?).

And speaking of cycling…I’m seriously considering buying a road bike. Suggestions?
