Wind-up Doll
January 21st, 2010
Thanks for all your sweet feedback on my last post! You all ROCK! I’m always looking for advice, too! So if you see any place where I could use some guidance, don’t hesitate to let me know!
I feel as though I run better when my muscles are tighter. I know it makes no sense, but I feel like a wind-up doll. Use that key sticking out of my back, wind me up and watch me run! Or like one of those toy cars that you set on the ground, pull backwards and then…… VROOOOOOM they’re off! All that tension has to be released somehow!
It’s probably in my head, but it happened today. Tuesday morning I decided to try a workout from Jillian Michaels before work. Well, you can just go right ahead and add that to the ever-growing list of “Stupid things Abby does in the name of ‘Fitness’”. My body now hates me, and everyone at work hates me too because of my incessant whining about the pain! I was pathetic enough to warrant a back massage from a co-worker who took pity on me (she also happens to be my best friend, just in case you were thinking that’s weird).
Tuesday and Wednesday were filled with a lot of this:

I even opted out of a workout last night because of the burning pain in my thighs and I was pretty concerned about my tempo run scheduled for today.
Alas, no need to be worried, apparently my “wind-up doll” theory proved to be correct this time!
Distance: 3.0 miles
Time: 28:23
Avg. Pace: 9:28/mile
Mile 1: 9:41
Mile 2: 9:21
Mile 3: 9:20
Can’t just see me.. vroooooooooom.. like the little toy car! Ok, I know it wasn’t that fast, but I was happy to shave off some time for this tempo run. The speed is coming back (slowly), friends.
Do you skip workouts because of previous workouts? Obviously, I do! But I feel like a wimp!
So here’s the plan for tonight:
-Yoga
-Ample amounts of Butternut Squash Apple soup I made because Dave won’t touch it and I don’t want to have to throw it away
-Greek homework
I lead such a glamorous life, huh?

oh hey can we be bffs? you are freaking ADORABLE. for real girl! i def skip workouts bc of previous ones! no shame! your body needs it!! just means you will DOMINATE the next one
Yes! I used to skip workouts all the time because of other workouts making me too sore. But tonight I broke that habit and just decided to suck it up! Hope your muscles start to feel better.
Jillian kicks my butt so much I have hidden her from myself as I train for runs. Because if i try to put her in the DVD then i will tell myself i dont have to run. and that is just no good.
ive actually been thinking a lot about workouts on top of workouts. Like running an interval run after/before a class. I always do some sort of cardio and strength each workout, but I am trying really hard not to “over do it”, you know. thoughts?
Well, i’m certainly no expert, but I think it depends on the intensity of each workout and what areas your exercising. I dont think it hurts to do both strength and cardio…but you just have to listen to your body.
And I totally understand why you hide Jillian! I don’t think I would have been able to run after that workout. It was awful…and yes, I’ll probably do it again
I love me some foam rolling!
I only skip if I feel like I pulled something or are way too sore to even get a good workout, u know? I don’t think you are wimpy at all!!
Tried to leave a comment and got an error, hope it doesn’t post twice!
Thanks for your comment on my last post, it really meant a lot to me!
I think I’m getting more used to Jillian, I only feel like I went through a cheese grater when I up my weights. I have skipped workouts from being sore, and wondered if I was defeating the purpose by having to skip a workout because of the previous one! Most recently it was a Jackie Warner, used weight in the ab portion–never knew my abs could hurt like that!
hahaa yeaaa! And sometimes I even think, “I didn’t even know there was a muscle there!!”

I know what you mean about running better with tight muscles. After a kick-ass strength session, my runs feel more powerful. Like when my muscles feel that good worked out sore, I can feel them pushing through.
Though not so much when my muscles are tired. I was feeling tired on Wednesday, so I declared it an impromptu rest day as well!
phew. I don’t feel like i’m crazy now!
Dexter is sooo cute!!! That face!
Um, well it depends on how I’m feeling. If I’m dead, and can’t move from the previous day’s workout, then I skip. If my muscles are sore, and I know that they will feel better if I just start moving them, then no I don’t skip!

Jillian Michaels is SO mean… But it’s totally worth it in the end. I always give my body a break especially if I’m super sore. Your dog is too cute!
