Have you entered my birthday giveaway yet? Don’t be shy! It’s FREE (and amazingly tasty)!
I just got home from a business trip that was close enough to “home” to allow me to spend the night in my old bed!
I also got my hands on the new release from Jonathan Cruse himself, In Transit. You can preview on Pure Volume and purchase on iTunes if you’re interested!
I also love the street that my parents live on, especially in the spring. The Japanese pear trees are in full bloom!
It was funny because my birthday loot included the following:
- A Nike running shirt
- A hot pink Camelbak (which is totally a kid’s size, but fits like a glove)
- A Dick’s giftcard
- Padded bike shorts
- Bike helmet
- Road bike
My thoughts? “Dang, I must be an athlete.” Umm, when did that happen? Ever since I was 8, I have played sports, but only recently have I begun to consider myself a genuine athlete. Now I’m concerned about “fuel” (not food), miles, water, cross training, amount of sleep, and I can no longer wear heels! Almost every area of my life has been adjusted in some way to accommodate my life as an athlete.
However, I slept in my running clothes last night know that at 5:45 a.m. I would not feel like going for a run, so I would make it easier on myself. Welp, I slept through my alarm, so when I rolled out of bed at 7:30 am wearing my Nike shorts and 5k shirt, I thought, “Dang, wearing athletic clothing doesn’t make you an athlete.” Oops.
My extra sleep today didn’t bother me too much. My running schedule is very flexible because it has to be, so I’ve been brainstorming on what kind of exercise I could do when I got home and just run tomorrow. I’ll let you know when I figure it out!
There are some things that have been bothering me and perhaps affecting my athletic performance (or at least hold the potential to)…
I need to eat more veggies! Funny for a vegetarian to say, but when I get in a hurry, fresh veggies fall by the wayside. Clif bars and other ready-to-go snacks are so much more convenient. I’m going to be more intentional about getting my greens!
I need to drink more water! I’m learning that there are three things that runners who are training (and who aren’t training) need. Food, Sleep, and WATER (miles are also good when training for a marathon ). Because I’ve been busy, I don’t drink enough water. I usually carry 2 liters with me but if I’m traveling or in meetings, I don’t want to drink it because I don’t want my day to be interrupted by frequent trips to the loo.
Want to know something else that is bothering me?
This darn blister from my bike ride on Sunday.
Biking gloves will also be purchased with birthday money, and definitely before my next bike ride. I saw a pink pair at the Trek store that I have set my sights on. They will match my Camelbak!
What are some things that you are working on to improve your fitness and/or athletic performance? Do you consider yourself an athlete?
I always love hearing what you guys have to say! You are all so insightful and give me some great ideas!
