It’s hockey night in Pittsburgh…

Tonight’s your last chance to enter my birthday giveaway! Seriously, you don’t have to have a blog to enter! Just leave me a little comment on this post for your chance to win some Pittsburgh goodies!

Speaking of Pittsburgh, it’s the beginning of NHL playoffs, and Dave has left me for the Mellon Arena for the evening. It also means he’ll be growing a beard…and probably be given to mood swings, and random fits of tears, lack of appetite and increased consumption of cheap beer.

So in his absence, I’m going to be spending the evening with my boyfriends…

And I’ll waste some more time reading with some of my favorite things!

Also I was toying with my Garmin and changed the settings. Before it showed my distance, pace, and time. Now it’s a little bit more cluttered, but I have more information available at a glance.

I now see my time, pace, average pace, and distance.

I also went for a run. I did about 5 miles in an hour (I realized that my Garmin was set to the bike setting mid-run so I turned it off). Also my stomach was a little upset so I did the walk/run method. Ain’t no shame!

My foot is a little sore, but I did wear the sleeve. Tomorrow I’m going to have a shorter run, so I’m not going to wear it. And since it’s supposed to be hot, I’m going to try my new Camelbak!

Thanks for your input on yesterday’s post! I think that it’s our mindset, not necessarily our activities, that determines if we consider ourselves to be athletes. For example, when I played softball, I was always icing something on my body usually my right arm). But then I was icing to make it feel better, now I ice my injuries to perform better. I really don’t care if my body hurts, as long as it still performs (but I know that pain is the body’s warning signal).

Don’t ever tell yourself you’ll never be an athlete. It’s a mindset. Believe that you can be, and you’ll start seeing the improvements. I notice this all the time with running—it’s mental. The fitness of my attitude is the greatest determinate in my running performance. Too bad the mind is the greatest obstacle to overcome!

Enjoy your night, friends! Get cracking on those giveaway comments while I ice and massage my foot!
