Day of Discovery
May 18th, 2010
Today was one of those days. You know, full of discoveries and new tidbits of information.
Like Wally isn’t a dog that likes to sleep in. In fact, he made sure I was awake at 6 am.
I also discovered that Dexter is very obedient despite his energy. You see, I let him sleep in bed with me, and this morning Wally kept putting his front paws on the bed to get my attention. Each time I said "get down", poor Dexter would get off of the bed. I’d then have to push Wally off the bed and call Dexter back up. This happened about three times before 7 am. Obviously this had “best day ever” written alllll over it.
When Dexter decided that he had enough of getting on and off the bed (due to my perceived indecision) he wrestled with Wally over his bone.
Well, what I thought was his bone.
I discovered that it was one of Dave’s dress socks.
I also discovered that Wally thinks he can hang out on my yoga mat. This I realized every time I tried a down dog split and kicked the poor dog. Yea, I gave up. Defeated by dogs—downward facing and real ones, too. I felt like this:
While at work, I discovered a huge coffee stain on my shirt. I blame the dogs—downward facing and real ones.
And since I was wearing the evidence of how my day was going, I discovered my happy place over lunch in my car with a latte (after all, half of my cup of coffee was on my shirt) and a bag of peanut MnMs.
Now friends, you’re about to discover the best vacation snack ever. When I was growing up, it seemed that this was a snack we were only privileged to enjoy on our summer vacations. I’m picking up the mantle of vacation goodies and making it for our trip.
Are you ready for this? (oh my, another recipe!!)
Trail Mix.
The best ever, I might add.
Ingredients:
- 12.6 oz. bag of MnMs
-~8 oz of raisins
-~8 oz of salted dry roasted peanuts
Ah, simplicity.
I first of all cannot stress to you enough how good this is. I also cannot stress enough how important it is to make sure the peanuts are salted. Because, as you’ll soon discover, the salty raisins are the best part.
Someone hide this from me, please!!
And there are some other discoveries that I’d like to share with you:
Jessica‘s Red Velvet Pancakes: Red velvet + pancakes?! These are making an appearance in the Outer Banks next. Reminiscent of our wedding cake, which was red velvet (…better than the frozen pieces in my parents’ freezer)!
The Peppermint Leaf’s Etsy Shop: I didn’t know about Amanda’s secret talent. About 3 minutes after discovering it, I bought a necklace. I can’t wait until I get it!
My Ex Wife’s Wedding Dress: Melissa tweeted about this site today. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.
Daily Survey: What is your favorite vacation treat? Is there a certain restaurant or ice cream shop you always go to when you visit your favorite vacation spot?

Love that trail mix!! Reminds me of our long car rides! I definitely hit up gelato spots when I am at the beach, and suffer for it later, haha!
MM! I want some gelato now! I think I’ve only had it at this one candy store in Pittsburgh. And of course I loved it!
I love trail mix like that…simple, salty and delicious!
I have some must visit spots, but I always research vacation places ahead of time and have a list of places to eat!
That’s a good idea! I haven’t done research yet–I should get on that!
That is the perfect trail mix and you are right about the salted peanuts. My favorite vacation treat… hmm I haven’t been on vacation in awhile! Trying out local cuisine.. and I always love ice cream of course. I always go to Abbott’s Frozen Custard and Bill Gray’s Burgers when I go home!
MM I LOVE custard! There’s a custard stand back home, too and my little brother works there. I get some cheap custard!
What a sweet puppy face! We always stop for icecream on vacation! Usually multiple times!
Finding good ice cream shops are the best. There was one in Cape May, NJ that we went to on our honeymoon… I STILL think about that ice cream! Pistachio almondine–amazing!
Mmm I love some good trail mix! That looks yummy!!
I have such a weakness for trail mix!!
