OOPS!

Thanks for all of your well wishes about my headache the other day. Turns out that I am sick!  I went to the doctor’s this morning (which is rare—I’d rather fix it myself), got some tests done, and needed an antibiotic. I should be back to my abby-normal self in a few days. Glad I got that under control. In other news…

I got my new toy last night!

Ain’t it a beaut?

I decided to christen it with the batch of Roasted Maple Cinnamon Almond Butter a la Ashley… yup, the same stuff that killed my old food processor.

Guess what? It killed this one too.

Yea, the first night—nay, the first TIME—I used it.

Dead.

DARN YOU, GE!

Dave has suggested that I only work in the kitchen under supervision. That might not be a bad idea. I have to date: set the kitchen on fire twice, broken 2 food processors, sliced a finger open, broke a full Britta water dispenser, and cracked countless plates and glasses. And it’s scary how many dinners and desserts I’ve destroyed via burning.

Look out! I am a dangerous one!

So, in light of my culinary setbacks, I made guacamole instead, because I crave it and it doesn’t require a food processor..unfortunately there was a knife involved—but Dave and our friend Gary were over my shoulder the entire time. Actually they were making a spaghetti dinner because I’m not safe around a stove either.

Abby’s Guacamole

  • 2 ripe avocadoes
  • ~1/4 c chopped red onions
  • ~1/4 c chopped sweet onion
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 1-2 tbsp. fresh, chopped cilantro
  • Juice from 1/2 lime
  • salt to taste

Super easy friends, you just combine and it all and mix. You’ll have to mash the avocadoes which is why they must be ripe. I’ve tried to make this with not-so-ripe avocadoes and it was extremely difficult! Although, it would have been good last night to work out the frustration over the food processor! :(

Ok, no pictures and for that I apologize. But trust me, you don’t need pictures of this guac proving it’s tasty—just go make it! :D

Ok, fine. Here’s a picture for you:

He is thinking, “Gee, I wish they’d let me have some of Abby’s Guacamole!”

I’m out to finish off this night off with some more rest. Hopefully I’ll be back at work tomorrow. I HATE sitting on the couch all day long. It’s torture!

What’s your most memorable kitchen fiasco?

  1. I hope you can return the food processor! My most memorable kitchen fiasco happened while baking a cake (the night before) for one of my best friend’s bridal shower. The cake was fine and dandy until I put the icing on it (it was a double layer cake). I’m still not quite sure what happened but the cake basically split in half! I think the icing was too heavy. Sooo I had to make another cake and ice it in the morning right before everyone arrived at my house!

haha, you poor thing. Cuisnart has a good Food processor from Costsco and full warranty! I love it!

Once I was trying to make candles, melted wax on the stove and it lit up in flames. I burnt off my eye lashes and eye brows on my left side. haha. My dad was there and just laughed. I wasn’t laughing though. :)

  3. OMG! Is it really dead?! My food processor does anything. It doesn’t even smoke!

  4. Oh no, are you going to return it?? I can’t believe the first time you used it, it died! I’ve had many kitchen flops, so don’t feel bad!

  5. D’oh, sorry about the food processor and I hope you can return okay.

  6. Kacy says:

Feel better Abby! I’m glad you went to the doc so you can knock this thing out!

Sorry about the FP, I kill them too…

  7. Erika says:

I’ve tried making that same “butter” from Ashley and it really gave my food processor a workout and took forever. I don’t think it’s heavy duty enough for it. Good ol’ guac to the rescue!

  8. I can’t believe your new food processor croaked the first use… so sad!

    And now I’m craving guacamole!

Maybe you need the same kind of food processor as Ashley has!

  9. Ashley says:

OMG…you stole my dog!!! seriously, lol…and can’t believe you broke #2

  10. Heather says:

I hope you can return that food processor! I also have a cuisinart and think it is so worth the investment – it is one of my favorite appliances. My mom still has the same cuisinart food processor from HER wedding.

Feel better – being sick is the worst.

  11. Amber says:

Yikes!! I have a cuisinart and it has with stood a many almond butters. Though it does get super hot when I use it. I hope that you are able to return it and either get a new one or get your money back!

  12. Cynthia says:

That sucks about your food processor. That almond butter sounds so good!

  13. Stacey says:

i’ve had that guac, and it is amazing!

also, i’m pretty sure that’s dexter’s “i miss stacey” face!
