The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
August 3rd, 2010
Ahoy, maties!
I.Love.The.Beach.
I think I’ll move here. But then where would I vacation? Pittsburgh? That sounds kind of boring. Perhaps I won’t move and keep the excitement and novelty of the beach. We’ll let the monotony of the ‘burgh remain as it is. You don’t notice so much when you’re living in it.
But really, all of life, even vacation, comes equipped with the good, the bad and the ugly.
Like beach games, for instance.
The Good: A friendly game of Bocce Ball with the sibs.
The Bad: I lost.
The Ugly: I’m pretty sure my low score and Adam’s victory was a result of the shady scoring tactics disguised under the innocent statement, “I’ve never kept score before”. Sure.
Or, say runs on the beach…
The Good: The view of the ocean and cool breeze, and the smell of the sea.
The Bad: Still not running my nine miler for half mary training.
The Ugly: Embarking on said nine miler but puking up my dinner 2 miles into. I ran the two miles back to the condo, and called it quits.
(FYI—the ocean is a perfect place to puke up your dinner on runs. The sand dunes can hide it, and the water is right there to wash your face off!)
Or car accidents.
The Good: Everyone was ok.
The Bad: Adam did it.
The Ugly: It is Jen’s car. Uh oh.
However, despite their obvious frustration, there’s a way to back it better…and you can help! Adam and Jen’s little baby, Levi, it’s a finalist in the Best Facial Expression on Parents.com. With your help, you can help Levi (and Adam—despite his questionable Bocce Ball rules) win the prize money. They need it to fix up the car!

C’mon! How can you say no to this face? No, I’m not talking about Adam!

Any big mishaps on your vacations? Car accidents? Lost Luggage? Lost people? Everyone has some story that is terrible at the time, but seems to be a good story to bring up at family functions to make people laugh!

On our way back from our honeymoon we were supposed to have an excursion in Florida before getting on our plane back to Ohio.. we were going to go on a tour at NASA. Anyway, our luggage lots it’s time departure sticker so it came during the last batch.. after the NASA people left without us. We were going to leave the luggage and have the cruise line send it to us — but the tour group left as we were filling out our claim report. UGH. So, we got a refund, waited for the bag, and got on a flight about 6 hours earlier than originally booked.
That baby is SO cute!! i can’t think of any terrible vacation mishaps right now, but I’m sure somewhere along the way there has been some.
Oh I’ve had luggage lost, reared ended a rented car, and missed a fllight. haha. Gotta love traveling! I say you plan on coming down to Austin this fall for a half mary!
While I was living in Florida, my sister and her husband came out to visit from California and we were planning to go to the keys. But a hurricane was threatening the entire lower half of the state, they both got a weird stomach flu and we ended up evacuating to Tampa instead and sending them home early from the airport. Good times.
Ahhh, he is sooo cute!!! Dude, I puked today at 5am and SO did ashley neverhomemaker. What the heck!!! Very weird. I’m sure it was the scorekeeper…
LEVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!! those pictures!!! sdkfja;dfjasjfjwlj1!!!!!
What a cute baby! I have gotten into a little fender bender with a rental once, opps! Funny thing is that I didn’t realize I did and kept driving. Driving in new places stresses me out, but it ended well.
I’m so sorry about the car accident and the puking. Suck! One of our mishaps was when we took our boat out at night like a couple of idiots, got lost on Lake Texoma, ran out of gas and had to tie up to a marina and sleep in the boat until they opened the next morning. BLECK.
Oh man, I have had SO much crap happen to me with flights, I don’t even sweat it any more. If I have a perfect, non-delayed, non-canceled flight, I am beyond thankful.
Glad everyone was ok in the accident! Bummer about the car.
Oh my gosh, isn’t there always something on vacation! Glad you’re still having fun.
My worst mishap was vacationing while abroad for a semester in Germany. My friend and I got kicked off a train in Czechoslovakia, in the middle of nowhere at 4 am and had no idea why (they didn’t speak English or German). Our only guess was because we were American and/or we had our feet on the seats. Scary at the time, but it worked out ok.
Who wouldn’t vote for that little cutie pie. Before my last trip to my parents house, I stopped at an awesome bakery and picked some some fabulous cupcakes for mom and dad. P had the job of packing the car. Of course even though I asked him if he packed them and he said yes..he forgot. We were halfway to our desination before I realized he didn’t pack them. Amazing cupcakes gone to waste is a vacation mishap in my book!
I love cupcakes so I agree! A terrible misfortune!
