Turkey Talk

Ok, I know I’m only 3 days into the Unstuff This Turkey challenge, but I feel that I need to give you an update already.

First of all I should let you know that the only thing that I have really cut out of my diet has been junk. At the end of the day, if I feel like I need something sweet, I have a very small (about 1 tbsp) of peanut butter chips. Other than that, I stick to only clean meals and snacks.

I’m working on incorporating more fresh vegetables but no huge changes have taken place. I’m more stunned at how good I’ve been doing staying away from the candy jars at work!!!

Now here’s what I’ve notice:

  • I’m in withdrawal. Serious sugar withdrawal. I am kind of crabby and I get a killer headache in the late afternoon—the normal time that I would go hunt down sweets. Some of that might be PMS, but I doubt it.
  • Despite the withdrawal, I have more energy. That might seem weird, but I’m telling the truth! Usually I stumble into my office with my hot mug of tea and grumble about how tired I am and how I want to go back to bed. I have not felt like that once this week. Even though I’m not bursting with energy, I don’t start the day in such a stupor and I certainly don’t hit the 2pm slump.
  • I still really want cookies! I know the change doesn’t happen overnight, but I don’t like that I sit there and think about the first thing I’m going to bake after Thanksgiving. It’s between gingerbread men and cookie dough balls. What do you think?

Tonight I did something that I have never done before (and I’m not talking about staying away from the candy)…I met Ashley at the local school track, and along with our husbands, I completed my first ever speed workout! We did 4 laps of 400s. Including our warm up and cool down, I ran 3.75 miles.

I didn’t really think about how to use my Garmin on those, so I don’t have exact times. Ashley assumes that I ran them between 95 and 105 seconds. I was by far the slowest of the four of us. Ashley and Dan are sooo speedy (Dan ran his last lap in 67 seconds) and Dave has some speed too. I was the last to cross the line…just call me the caboose! I’m ok with that…it was my first time!

Anyhow, as long as I can, I’ll be trying that workout once a week. And I will learn how to work my Garmin to show you all some splits and we’ll see if I gain any speed!

Ok, well I’m out to drink some tea and dream of what cookie would taste great with it…something chocolatey!

Pumpkin pie, watch out! I’m going to let loose on the dessert table first on Thanksgiving!

Have you ever done some kind of sugar detox? Have you experienced similar symptoms?

What is your favorite cookie?!

I make a mean chocolate chip cookie, but I loooove peanut butter blossoms, too!
