That’s Better

I surviiiiiiived!
Much better, huh?
I know I frightened many of you with pictures of the devastation that is our bedroom. And I’m definitely the messy one. Dave’s really clean and complains all the time about the destruction that follows me. But does he ever get to the point where it’s so bad that he cleans it? Nope. But I don’t blame him. I certainly don’t want to clean it!
Someone commented that our dressers looked vintage—and it’s because they are!
They belonged to my GREAT GRANDMOTHER! She died shortly after my parents got married (1980), so they inherited them. Then they bought a new bedroom set when I moved into my own apartment (2007) and I took this set. There’s really nothing wrong with them at all except some of the handles have fallen off, but we’ve replaced them. There’s also a mirror that goes with them, it’s sitting behind the low dresser (you can see part of it sticking up in the first picture).
Free and a family heirloom? Sounds good to me! Seriously, I know they don’t look like much but they have been around for at least 50 years. That says something about the quality!
However, this little gem is only a few years old but I’m hoping that it will be a piece that Dave and I pass on to our children and grandchildren (and great grandchildren).
It’s a cedar hope chest that Dave built for me for my 19th birthday. It’s gorgeous! Definitely my favorite piece of furniture!
We still have a lot of things to do in the house and the bedroom remains on of least finished rooms. We painted the walls and the trim and that’s about it! Oh and Dave mounted the TV onto the wall. He’s so handy!
However, after reading Young House Love’s post on curtains, I have decided to make my own curtains for the bedroom. That’s going to be my next project!
And maybe one of these days I’ll get around to showing you what some of our other new house projects have been!
