Chopsticks
January 8th, 2011
Tonight Dave and I hit up a relatively new Thai restaurant, Thai Foon, for some takeout. We had been there before so I got the same thing again, a tropical curry dish with tofu.
And for the meal, we brought out the wooden chopsticks that my aunt and uncle got for us for Christmas.
Despite that the majority of my family lives in Asia, I cannot eat with chopsticks. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t try…and inevitably I get frustrated because I hardly eat anything!
Grr.
Also frustrating is the mess I make with them whenever I try.
Grr.
Dexter was happy though and placed himself right by my feet to lick up any debris.
And once I ditched the sticks and picked up the fork, I was happy too.
I’m still working on liking tofu. I can only eat a little bit of it before I’m grossed out by the texture.
And while I’m being honest, I have to say that I didn’t run those 8 miles today. All the late night girl talk and the stress of driving on snowy roads made me crash whenever I got home. Tomorrow, though, I promise.
Can you eat with chopsticks? Do you like to? Does your dog like to hang out whenever you’re eating to catch what falls?!

I cannot get over the texture of tofu either or eat with chopsticks.
I am trying to get over the texture problems, but it’s hard. I’ll cook with it every once in a blue moon, but I have to chop it up really small!
I can use chopsticks, but we used them a lot growing up while going out to eat and having Asian themed dinners at home. I’m still not super with rice, but I do like eating salads and stir fry’s with them. For my dog – not too much, there’s only some vegan foods she likes.
I think I’ll just stick with forks…
I have gotten used to eating with chopsticks, but it took awhile. Our cat, Smuckers, can hear us grabbing a snack from across the house and will sit and watch with hope that crumbs will fall. She especially loves tortilla chips.
That is the cutest name for a cat!!! And I feel the same about tortilla chips!
That’s so interesting that you have family living in Asia. Similarly, my husband’s law firm mainly deals with Asian clientele and yet I’m far better than him at using chopsticks, haha.
I’ve been dealing with some shin issues the past couple weeks too… but I think (hope!) that rest seems to have helped. Hope you feel better soon!
I think the chopsticks part of my brain is broken! I try allll the time. Just can’t do it. Hope your shins are feeling better. I still haven’t run yet..it’s too cold to get out! brrrrrrr.
Oh I definitely can eat with chopsticks. I support an attempt at authenticity any time someone eats food traditionally consumed with chopsticks. I suppose I’m a purist in that way. It sure does take a while, though!
traditionally speaking, you’re weird.
I cannot eat with chopsticks, it’s embarrassing on dates.
