Unlikely Places

I lost my keys this past weekend. The good news is that my car keys were separate from the house/work keys and so I had those. I looked for awhile, but couldn’t find anything. In my resignation I told Dave that they were lost to the Abyss. He commented that it isn’t just coincidence that "Abyss" and "Abby" are spelled similarly. I have yet to come up with a crushing reply.

But I found my keys. They were under the potatoes.

Don’t ask.

And speaking of unlikely places, I could have been found in an unlikely place this evening.

Ashley and I met at a local track and did a speed workout. It was my only second speed workout ever, so I was pretty scared about what to expect. I was also scared of the wicked winds. I’m sure it would have been speedier under other conditions! :)

I rocked my new gloves. They are lovely. Just like my mismatched dining room table and chairs.

Here’s what Ashley had planned for us:

Warm up (1 mile)

3 minutes hard running
1.5 minutes walking
(Repeat 5 times)

Cool down (.5 mile)

Here are my stats so that I have a good way to see improvement that I make in my speed:

Rep 1: 3 mins @ 7:19
Rep 2: 3 mins @ 7:25
Rep 3: 3 mins @ 7:21
Rep 4: 3 mins @ 7:38
Rep 5: 3 mins @ 7:28

Our total distance was 4.13 miles.

The hardest part is gauging my speed. Since I’m not used to doing speed work, I don’t know how hard to push it on the 3 minute repeats. I didn’t want to go full speed and be dying by the end, but I also didn’t want to be too easy on myself. After all, these are speed workouts.

Judging by these numbers, I did alright for being a speed workout noob! Obviously there’s still a lot of room for improvement. We’re hoping to do a speed workout once a week, so there’s lots of time!

Do you try to do speed workouts during training?
Do you have any speed workouts that you like to do?
Where’s the craziest place you have ever found your keys?

Sometimes I find them in my hand…which is nuts. How did they get there?!

Veggie Wrap

In the past 3-ish years, I’ve learned that dinner shouldn’t be left to Dave’s discernment. His default meals are spaghetti or cereal.

After a hard, end-of-the-workday run, I want something healthy and fresh but I don’t want to cook.

Enter: veggie wrap.

The last time Dave said, “spaghetti?” I suggested this. Now I never hear “spaghetti?” anymore, but I have learned that I always need to have fresh vegetables and chickpeas on hand.

  • whole wheat wrap
  • Tahini-free hummus
  • spinach
  • tomatoes
  • green peppers
  • cucumbers
  • cheddar cheese
  • paprika

It’s delicious, it’s healthy, and Dave and I can’t eat enough of them. I recommend these for those dinners when you want something healthy but don’t want the hassle!

P.S. I really need to buy some batteries for my camera. I’m getting sick of my Android photos. Apologies, my friends. I’ll fix that soon.
