That’s Why I Was So Slow!

Remember that “half-hearted” 1/2  marathon I ran back in March?

Well, apparently I wasn’t running alone… nope. I was carrying some precious cargo that is due to make his or her appearance on December 20th.

I’d like to blame my very slow time on that, but it’s probably mainly because I was undertrained and didn’t care. But if I feel like it, I can pull the pregnant card, I guess.

ANYHOW. Kristen wants me start blogging again (she told me on Facebook) and my husband agree. And I don’t really have much to blog about, but I can catch you up on the events of the past 3 months. Basically, it has been a lot of sleeping, eating comfort food and being miserable in the heat.

  • I haven’t been sick at all (ok, that’s a lie. I had about 2 days of morning sickness)
  • My worst symptoms have been fatigue and acne (?!?!!!)–still better than being sick
  • My only food aversions have been lettuce and mexican food, which were probably my two favorite foods before getting pregnant
  • My cravings include, but are not limited to: potatoes (especially instant mashed potatoes), meat!, grapes, salmon, lemonade, cheese & crackers, ranch dressing, mayonnaise!, swiss cheese
  • I have spent all of my free money the past 2 months on food because I can’t pack a lunch since I don’t know what will gross me out or what I’ll be hungry for
  • This is bad because I can only button one pair of dress pants for work but don’t have the money to buy maternity pants (but I only gained ~3 lbs in the first trimester)
  • So far I only miss dippy eggs, but I would really like a deli sandwich but I can eat neither the deli meats (pregnancy) nor the fluffy bread (celiac)
  • I’ve been running around 15 miles/week but it really depends on the heat and how I’m feeling and I don’t push myself at all
  • I feel like I’ve had a constant cold &/or allergies over the past 2 month and I currently have no voice
  • I had roast beef yesterday at a wedding and it was ah-mazing–this is the first time in ~7 years that I’ve had red meat

The only other thing to add is that I have noticed that people like to tell us what day is a good day to have a baby (like, “oo! the 8th is my birthday! have it then” or “12/12/12 is cool” or “have a Christmas baby!”). WHY?! I have absolutely no control over the day the baby chooses to arrive.

(P.S. Pregnancy hormones have made me impatient with people and extremely sarcastic and snarky… well, more so than usual.)

Woohoo! I saw that Dave liked my comment! Again, so happy/excited for you! Pregnancy is so much fun – as is being a mom! Now I want more than just updates on Facebook… ;)

  3. Congratulations!

You have nothing to blog about, huh? ;-) Seems like you’ll have plenty of changes over the next while that should provide you with plenty to talk about!

I have had a constant stuffy nose during pregnancy and acne has been out of control. It’s frustrating! I can’t wait to not have a stuffy nose anymore.

Buy some maternity clothes, that way when you pop you don’t wake up in the morning in a panic because you can’t fit anything on. That’s my one little nugget of pregnancy advice that I’ll offer unsolicited! :-)

Congrats, Abby! Yes, please blog more often! I look forward to reading any of the stories you wish to share about your pregnancy–you have always put an interesting spin on things.

    Take care!

Yay! Welcome back to the blogosphere! Can’t wait to hear about all the adventures (and misadventures) pregnancy brings! So interesting about the meat cravings…I’ve heard that a lot. I wonder if it’ll happen to me?! It’d be so weird…and I don’t even know how to cook meat since college = pasta, salad, and sandwiches and since then I’ve been veggie!

I told myself that if I wanted something, I’d eat it (within reason). So far it’s crazy what I want and how ok I am with eating it. Like the roast beef yesterday— OH MY GOSH. It just smelled so good, so I had a little and then found myself eating some off of Dave’s plate. I assume that once the baby is born I’ll go back to “mainly Veg” diet. But for now, I’d like some more roast beef.

I’m sure you will be surpirsed to know that I also had an aversion to mexican food while preggo. And seriously buy yourself some maternity pants. Those elastic waists are A-mazing. I don’t know why I don’t wear them all of the time. I like to think of them as my buffet pants.

  11. Sara Stainbrook says:

Congrats, Abby! Lacey told me your news when I saw her Saturday! I bought maternity dress pants with the first pregnancy because I had to dress up for work, but didn’t buy any maternity clothes with the second. I used belly bands and left my pants unbuttoned. I would use two as I got bigger! Good luck finding what works for you!

  17. Congrats Abby, thats fantastic news! :)

  18. amanda says:

Abby, I can’t believe you are having a baby! Congratulations!!! I was a vegetarian for 5 years before I got pregnant with Jacob and started eating meat again during my pregnancy. And I had a stuffy nose the entire way through my pregnancy with Andrew. So glad you are not sick, because that’s the absolute worst! You definitely have lots to blog about now. Take measurements of your growing belly – and pictures (for yourself if you don’t want to share them). I took a picture wearing the same pants, standing in the same spot every month with Andrew and I was just looking back at them the other day. It’s amazing how you expand! Wishing you good health and a happy pregnancy. Enjoy it. It really is such a short period of time. I found this on Pinterest the other day and I love it: “No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you’re the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.”

Congratulations! My little girl was due on December 20, 2011! She was perfectly happy inside me thought and didn’t make her appearance until January of this year. The most frustrating part was actually during the holidays as all the relatives wanted me to go into labor “right then!”

I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly. I have to say – pregnancy pants are the most comfortable pants ever. It feels like wearing yoga pants all the time.

The most important piece of advice I can give is relax and enjoy the ride… you and your husband know what’s best for you and your baby, no matter how much advice others give (and they will give it freely and frequently – particularly those who don’t have children oddly enough). Parenthood is a wonderful journey – I’m excited for you both.

  22. Ahhh so exciting!! Congrats to you!!

  23. Kacy says:

I don’t know how I missed this, but omg! Congrats Abby. I’m so happy for you.

I also love how you announced it. No nonsense. :)
