Calling All Bookworms!

A few updates!

1) I reached the halfway mark! Enjoy this belly picture because it’s probably one of the only ones you’ll get.

2) We got to see Baby J on Tuesday… AND IT’S A GIRL! Name is already picked, but secret! So don’t even ask! Actually the boy name is also picked but, again, it’s a secret! We’ll be saving it if we ever have a boy.

3) I have been a reading machine this year. I know that I was so reluctant to get an e-reader, but seriously, it’s awesome. I have it with me all the time so whenever I have a few minutes, I just pick it up and read. I can also read from my computer and my phone in case I don’t have my Kindle with me.

Here’s my 2012 Completed Books list so far:

Character Counts by Os Guinness

The Fellowship of the King by Liam Goligher

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

The Girl who played with Fire by Stieg Larsson

The Girl who kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

World Without End by Ken Follett (the sequel to Pillars of the Earth)

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

A Girl of the Limberlost By Gene Stratton-Porter

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan

Forever by Paul Tripp

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer

Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness

Hood by Stephen Lawhead

Scarlet by Stephen Lawhead

Tuck by Stephen Lawhead

Kristin Lavransdatter: The Wreath by Sigrid Undset

A Case for Civility by Os Guinness

Life of Pi by Yann Mantel

Can you tell it’s been to hot for me to lug my preggo body on a run?! I’m working through the entire Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy. It is really good, but it’s a slower read, so I read it in between books and then take a break to read other things so I don’t get burnt out. I did read the Deborah Harkness books twice because I flew through them and wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I highly recommend them if you like vampire/witch literature.

I’m heading to the beach on the 11th and you all know I love to read on vacation. A few years ago I asked for book suggestions, and from those suggestions I picked Pillars of the Earth, which was phenomenal!

So I’m asking again! The Poisonwood Bible got a lot of recommendations so that’s on the list. Also, my little brother said Room was a must-read and that’s on my list. I have a few parenting books that I’d like to read as well (Parenting by God’s Promises by Beeke and Shepherding a Child’s Heart by T. Tripp). But I’m not really in a rush because I have plenty of time for those.

So, friends, what books do I need to add to my beach reading list?

First of all, you look amazing!!!!! :D
As for the books…what kind of books do you like, crime, fantasy, history, …? I usually read crime books, I love Fred Vargas books, especially the first ones, Henning Mankell, Jeffery Deaver,Jo Nesbo, Joe Lansdale (love the atmosphere); as for other “non-crime” novels, Gabriel Garcia Marquez (One Hudred years of solitude, love at the Time of Cholera, of love and other demons, …), Isabel Allende (Portrait in Speia, Daoughter of Fortune, …),Carlos Luis Zafon (the first book); I also like Haruki Murakami (Norwegian wood, South of the Border, West of the Sun, Dance Dance Dance, …), Vorginia Woolf (Three guineas, a room of one’s own), Jared Diamond (Collapse and other books, I can’t recall their titles!! …As you can see I love to change writers by country, as I love the different atmospheres in their books, and I’d suggest some italian titles but I don’t know if they’re translated into english! Do you have an anobii account? I find a lot of useful suggestions there :)

      Thanks, Luna!!!!

I have some Virginia Woolf on my list, but I don’t think I have heard of any of the other books or authors that you have mentioned. I need to expand my horizons. Sometimes I feel so sheltered and reading is the best way to open up my small little life to the world.

I’ll look into anobii! Thanks :)
