Migraines and Running Don’t Mix

David was kind enough to remind me to blog. You can all thank him.

I’ve been in a funk the past few days…I just haven’t been feeling good and I realized it was a headache/low-level migraine that I’ve had since Thursday. I figure it’s caused by a tight or pulled muscle in my back or neck (something I’ve struggled with before…I’m sure you can find blog posts about it from 2011 if you are the stalker type). I just made an appointment, but the soonest I could get in is Friday afternoon. Let’s hope I can still manage to run this week.

My long run yesterday was a wash. I planned 11-12 miles and couldn’t even make it five. And today would be a perfect day to take Lucy out in the jogging stroller (high of 50!) and yet when I move I feel like my eyeballs are going to pop out of my head. Even grocery shopping seems like a task of epic proportions right now.

This week was supposed to be a step back week in my training (shorter long run), but since I bailed on my long run yesterday, I planned to use last week as a step back. Now that my appointment isn’t until Friday, I’m not sure I’ll be able to run much at all. Marathoner problems, right?

It’s ok. It’s not a big deal and it’s early enough in my training that it won’t have negative effects on me. It can only be good, right? I’ll just take a few Epsom salt baths a day and patiently wait for Friday….

Lucy, in the meantime, wants to go running!

I’m trying not to be disappointed, but it’s hard. Mostly because I feel pretty crappy. And it’s warm out. And I have new running clothes and a new Garmin. Such a difficult life I lead (that’s sarcasm, folks).

Stay tuned. I know this will keep you all on the edge of your seats.

Do you suffer from migraines? What do you do to treat them? I don’t get them often and this has been the worst/longest lasting. I’m kind of at a loss for home remedies. Ideas?

    Hang in there hun! I’m sorry to hear about the migraines and hope that you feel better asap. I haven’t had one in a long time, but I used to get them a lot when I was younger. I would try to sleep them off then, but I know that isn’t an option for you now. You’re absolutely right, though…this is early in your training, and it won’t hurt you to lose a few days if necessary. Do what you can and let the rest go.
