Wherein I complain about the weather…

I’m blogging now before Dave reminds me that it’s been over a week since I last blogged.

I really hate to do this, but I need to take a minute to complain about the weather. This is a horrible winter, even by Pittsburgh standards! Snow and ice and bitter tempsā€¦there is no break! The forecast for this week looked so promising, but we’ve had snow everyday since at least Saturday. Maybe before then. I can’t remember. And I haven’t run outside since last Saturday! Blerg.

But the treadmill runs aren’t entirely the fault of the weather. A big part of it is because of my (wonderful) responsibilities of motherhood. It’s been too cold to run outside with Lucy and too dark/icy to run outside when Dave’s home to watch her. So my options are limited to the treadmill at nap time or treadmill after Lu’s bedtime.

So the treadmill, while hated, is a very valuable possession this year. I managed 16 miles on it on Saturday. But I need to run outside at least a couple times this week. I have a 15 mile “race” on Saturday. Initially it was forecasted to be 60 and sunny and now it’s looking like 45 and rainy. Seriously? I’m losing patienceā€¦and I’m usually very patient with winter.

At least Lucy looks cute in the snow!

Ok, well. Thanks for the photo op, winter. Now GO AWAY.

I could not agree more. I live in DC, and while our winters don’t rival yours, I tend to be pretty forgiving of the lower temps and occasional treadmill runs while my regular trails are icy (which only happens 2-3 times per winter), but this winter has been BRUTAL. Just when things start to clear enough to hit the roads/trails, we get slammed AGAIN. I hate to be whiny, but this is beyond old. Luckily, I’m not training for anything specific right now (small comfort). But I’ve already told my boyfriend that if next winter is anything like this, I’m flying to Florida every other weekend for long runs (I’ll be training for Boston 2015). Extreme? Yes. But totally necessary, right?

16 miles on the treadmill?? Aii you are better than I am…I still can’t do more than five :( I need this winter to be done…I can’t take the snow and cold anymore. Lack of running outside is bad enough, but being stuck inside with the two little guys I nanny for constantly? Even worse. Fingers crossed it’s done soon. Good luck at spring thaw this weekend :)

Couldn’t agree more this winter has just been a mess for Pittsburgh, seems like the treadmill has been most peoples way of training. Hopefully it stays warm for a while
